International law problems?

Welcome to International law!

My name is David R. Mannix

I practice International Law, however, not as frequently as I would like. If your here specifically because you are looking for an international attorney.  You will want to read the commercial!

I am also one of those guys who's always drafting Letters to the Editor instead of making money!  So I have combined the two on this web site, on the International Law Forum page I'll throw out a question and invite a friendly debate from others of like interest. (This topic will change.)   You will find a topic on page 2   (The Fun Part)

The Pitch.

Doing business across a border?...or just thinking about it?

It used to be (and for the most part still is) the case that a LEGAL issue in a foreign arena--be it negotiating a contract with a foreign government, dealing with a cross-border parental child abduction, trying to figure out which state has the jurisdiction over an issue, or the like, involved a combination of the clumsy, the obscure, and the expensive -- like talking to US agency or two, maybe a consular official, hiring a lawyer here AND hiring a lawyer there, getting hit up with a few outstretched palms, and so on...

You may still have to deal with some of that, but at least now finding an attorney in the United States who has some experience in such areas does not require the big city "name" firm that gives you a choice of paying through the nose for some preppie lawyer who has never been in the real world, versus REALLY paying through the nose for the old partner with life experience...

Now you have the option of dealing with someone too independent to work for anyone, who moved to a small town in a scenic part of the country to be a solo practitioner, who, thanks to the 'net, can still practice his first love, international law.

Let me tell you a bit about myself... I've been around the block a few times in this area.

I have comprehensive experience in numerous areas of international law.

A few selective example of my experiences:

1. I have negotiated licenses and concessions with foreign governments at the
highest level.
2. I have reviewed foreign separation decrees and advised on whether they
should continue in that forum for their divorce or come back to the US.
3. I have made suggestions (that were taken) by a Third World parliament
writing their country's new  constitution.
4. I have advised a former communist country regarding how to make their
Natural Resource law more encouraging for overseas investors.
5. I have played "general counsel" to small entities with (or seeking) a
cross-border presence, i.e.,reviewing foreign concessions laws, shopping
supervising local counsel, and so forth...
6. I may be the ONLY attorney in the United States holding him or herself out
as a Subsaharan Africa  practitioner, (although that is not all that I do...)

I believe you will find my experience beneficial, I am excepting new International Law clients.
